MorpheusML is an innovative, globally used open-source modelling and simulation framework for studying multiscale and multicellular systems. It enables the modelling of complex biological systems at the cellular level, taking into account spatio-temporal and mechanical aspects. Such biological systems include self-organisation, patterning, morphogenesis and disease processes from the intracellular to the tissue and organ level, with applications in systems biology, computational biology, biophysics and systems medicine.
We at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Digital Sciences (CIDS) at TUD Dresden University of Technology are committed to providing the global research community, with the MorpheusML Model Repository, a platform for the FAIR publication of such biological models within the discipline of computational biology – easily accessible, collaborative, citable, based on open-source frameworks and expandable.
The MorpheusML Model Repository is organised into three categories: (1) simple didactic example models that serve as a starting point for users' own further developments and are discussed in detail, (2) user-contributed models showcasing complex or interesting effects of self-organisation in biological systems, and (3) models from peer-reviewed publications. It is a public and freely accessible repository that, across these categories, collects, curates, documents, tests and validates computational models for multiscale and multicellular biological systems.
By joining the FIDELIS network, the MorpheusML Model Repository aims to advance interoperability with other infrastructure and TDR providers, improve alignment with FAIR principles, work towards certification and identify, exchange and adopt common metadata standards for research data, software and other scientific outputs to ultimately boost the discovery of research output and thus enhance sustainability for all members.
