The annual iPRES Conference brings together researchers, practitioners, and organisations across the globe involved in the field of digital preservation. Experts from all parts of the world contribute to shaping the conference to ensure that it meets the needs of both seasoned and new digital preservation practitioners, and that the programme embraces new perspectives. Since its inception in 2004, iPRES conferences have been held across four continents. In 2026 the conference heads to Copenhagen, Denmark. The themes for this year’s conference are community, preservation, and horizon. The themes aim to encourage reflections on the evolving practices, innovations and collaborations shaping the future of digital preservation.

Monday, 21 September 9.00-12.30 CEST: Maria Benauer, Micky Lindar, Bertrand Caron, Johan Kylander, Kris Dekeyser, Fen Zhang: Workshop: Core Preservation Processes in Action
This workshop will introduce participants to the Core Preservation Processes and to different methods of interaction with the description documents. By introducing and testing different use cases for the CPPs, the workshop will give the participants hands-on experience in applying a structured documentation approach to both existing preservation processes within their organisations as well as to new processes they seek to develop. Lastly, the workshop aims to gather feedback from the participants on the CPP resources, and to foster general engagement with community-owned resources.
Tuesday, 22 September 14.00-14.30: Long paper: How long is long – and what happens afterwards? (Laura Molloy; Micky Lindar).
The paper and presentation present key findings of the survey on current identification, selection and appraisal practices for long-term preservation of data, which EOSC EDEN conducted last year.
Thursday, 24 September 9.00- 9.30: Long Paper: Codifying Current Practices in Digital Preservation Operations: EOSC EDEN Core Preservation Processes (Bertrand Caron; Maria Benauer; Micky Lindlar; Matthew Addis; Johan Kylander; Kris Dekeyser).
The paper and presentation presents the objectives, methodology, content and future prospectus of the Core Preservation Processes (CPPs). It shows how the CPPs can be used for workflow planning and practice as well as for training, common terminology development and outreach.
Poster: Transparent, Referenceable, Integrated, Preservation Planning TRIPP (Hervé L’Hours; Oliver Parkes; Maria Benauer; Micky Lindlar; Bertrand Caron; Mari Kleemola).
The poster presents ongoing collaborative work between the EOSC EDEN and EOSC FIDELIS projects towards transparent implementation of retention, curation and preservation planning processes in digital repositories and archives.
